In the mid 1990's it was decided to replace the entire fleet of airfield crash/fire vehicles with two standard appliances, namely the Major Foam Vehicle (MFV), and the Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV), These trucks were to become standard issue throughout the MOD and were designed with a 20 year life- The MFV's were the first to enter service and came with an impressive array of new specifications, far superior to the aging Mk9s 10s and 11s they replaced. These features included a bumper turret, remote operating, new foam (FFFP), High Pressure Hose Reels and onboard powder systems. |
